Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Birding in Entebbe Areas.

Our company guide will transfer you from your hotel to Entebbe and then start looking for birds in the Garuga and the nearby surrounding areas around Lake Victoria. Among the bird species to look out for include; White headed Barbets, Fain tailed Widow bird, the Blue Monarch, Brown Twin Spots, Striped Kingfisher, Black headed Gonolek Moustached Warbler, Pied hornbill, Diederik’s Cuckoo, Black Bishop, you then have lunch in Entebbe town and after continue to Uganda wildlife Education centre, this area is a home to over 250 bird species including; parrots, the ostriches, shoebill stork, Orange Weaver, Northern Masked Weaver and many more. After, return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight.

Day 2: Birding in Mabamba swamp

Have breakfast and then transfer to Mabamba swamp which is 15km west of Entebbe and 50km west of the capital of Kampala. This Mabamba swamp is listed among the many important bird areas, has got a lot of water associated with bird species. After this boat ride, you will be able to see the shoebills in only a few minutes. The many species that are found here include; the African Water Rail, Grey herons, lesser jacana, blue breasted bee-eater, egrets, the Papyrus Gonolek, Squacco, gull-billed tern, Purple Gallinule, Goliath, Weyn’s Weaver, Northern Brown throated Weaver, White winged Warbler, Allen’s Gallinule, ducks and the pygmy goose. The other bird species are the sitatungas in Mabamba. Then drive to Kampala where you will have an overnight and dinner meal.

Day 3: Drive to Lake Mburo National park

Have an early breakfast and after drive to Lake Mburo National park that is found in southern region of Uganda. This drive to the southwest will take 4 hours and the most common species that are found here are Crested Francolin, Crested Francolin, Northern Black Tit, Lilac breasted Roller, Greater Blue Eared Starling, African Grey Hornbill, Trilling Cisticola, Bare faced Go-Away bird, Emerald spotted Wood Dove, Common Scimitar bill, Green Wood Hoopoe, Spot-Flanked Barbet, and many more. Have lunch and then proceed for a game drive in the evening to many different regions of the park. You will view many animals including; topis, warthogs, zebras, antelopes, and the buffalos. After you will drive to Queen Elizabeth National park for an overnight

Day 4: Explore Queen Elizabeth National park.

Have breakfast and then proceed to Maramagambo forest which is in Queen Elizabeth National park. Within this forest, you will see many forest birds including the hornbills, sunbirds, as well as the king fishers. The other features also include; the bat caves where large Egyptian fruit bats live, the hunter’s cave and the small bluish transparent blue lake. Proceed to Kazinga channel were you will enjoy the boat trip and view many birds including the king fishers, pelicans, the African jacana, saddle bill stork as well as the African fish eagle.

Day 5: Birding in Queen Elizabeth national park

Wake up so early in the morning and then proceed for a game drive in the park, you will view many birds in the savannah grassland. Some of them include; the Lesser Flamingoes, Papyrus Canary, the Martial Eagle, Red Footed Falcon, Saddle-billed Storks, Ovampo Sparrow hawk, African Skimmer, Black-rumped Buttonquail, Verreaux’s Eagle-Owl, White-tailed Lark, Papyrus , Gonolek, and many more. Get back to the lodge for lunch and in the evening visit Katwe salt works and view many birds near the salty lake and the nearby areas.

Day 6: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National park

Have breakfast and then head to Bwindi as you bird along the way, this drive will take you through the ishasha sector, were the tree climbing lions live. You will reach by noon and enjoy lunch as you prepare for the birding session of birding near Buhoma area.

Day 7: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi forest

Wake up so early and proceed for gorilla trekking in the tropical afromontane forest. You will view variety of elusive giant gentle gorillas and it’s really a memorable experience. As you search for these giants, you will meet many birds along the way. You will then have lunch and later have a forest walk along the different trails during which you get an opportunity of seeing the aalbertine rift endemics including the African Green Broadbill, Shelley’s Crimson-wing, Chapin’s Flycatcher, and many more. The other bird species include; Shelley’s Crimson wing,, Mountain Masked Apalis, Banded Prinia, Black-faced Rufous, the Grauer’s Warbler, Black-faced Apalis, Yellow-eyed Black-Flycatcher, the African Green Broadbill, and many more.

 Day 8: Birding in Lake Bunyonyi

Have breakfast and then transfer to Kabale birding along the way. You will also bird around Lake Bunyonyi and later relax at the lodge.

Day 9: Morning boat ride & Island Tour

Have breakfast and then roceed for a boat ride on the lake to visit the many Islands on this lake. Many birds migrate from Europe and come and stay around this lake. You have a tour to Akampene Island where the bakiga people abandon the pregnant girls who were not yet married. It’s a good adventure to enjoy on this island, after go back to the lodge where you will have rest and dinner.

Day 10: Departure

Have breakfast and then drive back to Kampala, enjoy lunch along the way and then arrive in the afternoon in Kampala.
