Entebbe has also got may swamps or the wetland birds that can be seen near Lake Victoria and near the wetlands. UWEC also gives the visitors a chance to view many birding species including the Egyptian goose, the ostriches, the gorgeous peacock, crested cranes, and many more. This tour will also take you to Mabamba swamp, Mabira forest which has got over 300 species of birds, to Lake Mburo national park, all these areas will give you a chance to enjoy many birding species.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Enjoy birding in Entebbe & the nearby environments

Our company guide will transfer you from your hotel to Entebbe and then start looking for birds in the Garuga and the nearby surrounding areas around Lake Victoria. Among the bird species to look out for include; White headed Barbets, Fain tailed Widow bird, the Blue Monarch, Brown Twin Spots, Striped Kingfisher, Black headed Gonolek Moustached Warbler, Pied hornbill, Diederik’s Cuckoo, Black Bishop, you then have lunch in Entebbe town and after continue to Uganda wildlife Education centre, this area is a home to over 250 bird species including; parrots, the ostriches, shoebill stork, Orange Weaver, Northern Masked Weaver and many more. After, return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight.

Day 2: Birding with in Mabamba swamp

Have breakfast and then transfer to Mabamba swamp which is 15km west of Entebbe and 50km west of the capital of Kampala. This Mabamba swamp is listed among the many important bird areas, has got a lot of water associated with bird species. After this boat ride, you will be able to see the shoebills in only a few minutes. The many species that are found here include; the African Water Rail, Grey herons, lesser jacana, blue breasted bee-eater, egrets, the Papyrus Gonolek, Squacco, gull-billed tern, Purple Gallinule, Goliath, Weyn’s Weaver, Northern Brown throated Weaver, White winged Warbler, Allen’s Gallinule, ducks and the pygmy goose. The other bird species are the sitatungas in Mabamba. Then drive to Kampala where you will have an overnight and dinner meal.

Overnight at Cassia Lode / Hotel Africana

Day 3: Enjoying birding in Mabira Forest & adventure the source of the Nile.

Have breakfast and then head to Jinja which is also the oldest industrial town in Uganda. Have a stopover at Mabira forest which is along the Kampala-Jinaj high way. This forest is also the largest remaining tropical rain forest in central African region. You will then have a short walk in the forest with over 300 bird species including the Black and white Flycatcher, Grey-crowned Negro finch, Yellow whiskered Greenbul, Grey, the Little Olive, Blue throated brown, spotted Woodpecker, Red headed Malimbe, olive bellied Buff spotted Woodpecker, Black throated Apalis, Leaf love, speckle breasted Woodpecker, Blue breasted Kingfisher, African blue Flycatcher, Grey capped warbler, Purple headed Starling, common Wattle, Dusky Tit, Snowy headed Robin-Chat, and the forest Ribbon. Have lunch in Jinja town before adventuring the source of the Nile and Bujagali falls. After head back to Kampala and spend there a evening.

Overnight at Cassia Lode / Hotel Africana

Day 4: Drive to Lake Mburo National park

Have an early breakfast and after drive to Lake Mburo National park that is found in southern region of Uganda. This drive to the southwest will take 4 hours and the most common species that are found here are Crested Francolin, Crested Francolin, Northern Black Tit, Lilac breasted Roller, Greater Blue Eared Starling, African Grey Hornbill, Trilling Cisticola, Bare faced Go-Away bird, Emerald spotted Wood Dove, Common Scimitar bill, Green Wood Hoopoe, Spot-Flanked Barbet, and many more. Have lunch and then proceed for a game drive in the evening to many different regions of the park. You will view many animals including; topis, warthogs, zebras, antelopes, and the buffalos.

Day 5: Explore Lake Mburo National park

Have breakfast and then proceed for a game drive in early morning with in the park, after you will have a guide walk that is so adventurous and enjoyed on foot. During this walk, you will get a chance to see many wetlands and the savannah bird species, impalas, as well as sitatungas. You will as well enjoy a boat ride on this lake were you will be able to see many birds, some fishing and resting on the lake shores. Have lunch and then go for a game drive along the daring zebra’s track that has many birds. Along this trail, some of the birds you are likely to see include; Rufous Chested Swallow, Rufous napped, Black Bellied Bustard, Temmricks Courser, Coqui Francolin, Flappet Lark, African Wattled Plover, and many more. Get back to hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Birding & wildlife tour & Departure

You will have a game drive in the morning along the lakeside track in order to see the many different swamp and water bird species like the papyrus Gonolex, the Great Swamp Warbler, Papyrus Yellow Warbler, White Winged Warbler, and many more. After return to the hotel or the lodge for breakfast. Have lunch and then start your drive back to Kampala having a stopover at Equator to take photographs and then continue to Kampala arriving in the evening.
